Who we are
Afara Studio is an award winning creative practice specialising in design and horticultural services. From communal gardens to private havens, we focus on creating lush micro-climates for plants as well as the wildlife and humans that dwell in them.
About Morayo
Our founder Morayo Adeyemi draws from her work history in the Landscape Architecture and Community sectors. Through her work at Afara Studio, she aims to utilise cultural traditions within restorative beauty of nature.
Ethos
There are layers of meaning that inspired the name Afara. It is the Yoruba word for bridge, and also the common name of Terminalia, a genus of hardwood trees native to West Africa. The trees are said to look like pagodas, the Buddhist and Taoist temples of Asia.
At Afara studio we are inspired by vernacular landscape and architectural traditions from all over the world, as they prioritise the key design principles of Sustainability, Community Engagement and Cultural Preservation.
